PBA Officers of the Month

Officer of the Month - June, 2007

Delray Beach K-9 Officer Thomas Tolbert - nominated by Rod Stevenson

K-9 Officer Tom Tolbert and his partner, Karo, responded to a robbery call from Picasso’s Pizza in Delray Beach on June 1, 2007. There were two masked suspects with an assault rifle and two handguns. The owner was shot as he tried to exit the front door and the suspect with the assault rifle exited the back door and shot through the back door striking two of the employees. Officer Tolbert and Karo, along with PBSO K-9, road patrol, marine patrol and the Eagle searched for the suspects for over 10 hours during which a huge storm with heavy rain moved in. Karo alerted to a boat behind a residence where the two suspects were taken into custody. This arrest was a huge success as the suspects later confessed to 5 other robberies and a homicide in Miami.

Officer of the Month - July, 2007

Jupiter Officer Michael Woodside, nominated by James Feeney

On May 4, 2007, Mike responded to an in-progress strong arm robbery call at the Jupiter West Plaza where he met with the victim who was with his girlfriend and attacked (thrown to the ground, kicked and jewelry taken by force) by three males in front of an ice cream store. Instead of turning the case over to a detective, Mike took the initiative of continuing to investigate the case. He diligently continued to track down the suspects and while on patrol nine days later spotted the suspects back in the Plaza. Mike coordinated with other officers and two of the suspects gave up and the third fled. The suspect was apprehended in the rear of the Plaza. Mike should be commended for his perseverance and initiative in this case. It was due to his diligent investigation that the suspects were apprehended in such a timely manner.

Officers of the Month - August, 2007

Palm Beach Shores Officer Steven Deck, nominated by Officer Tom Clark

Palm Beach Shores was struck with three armed robberies (a pedestrian in the walkway and two residents as their exited their vehicles) in as many days. Steve began working with Officer Clark on the first two robberies when the third robbery occurred. Steve worked his regular schedule and volunteered to work on his days off, in addition to hours above and beyond his evening schedule in an effort to clear these cases. Steve worked with other agencies and gathered enough information, victim statements, and photo ids to clear the cases and file the warrants. Steve’s skills, determination and tenacity working outside his scheduled tour of duty demonstrate his professionalism and willingness to go the extra distance to solve cases.
